Developmental Editing
What is Developmental Editing?
The role of Developmental Editor is to serve as mentor and anchor while working in tandem to transform your project from first draft into a solid, submission ready, display of your craft. We’re aiming to improve both this piece and your strengths as a writer so no red pens or directives, we’ll be trading ideas and floating what ifs. Through open discourse and detailed, explicated notation, we’ll solidify your intention, address narrativistic and linguistic challenges, and get you, and your project, on the right path. My approach is writer first, then the writing. I believe we become better craftspeople when our comfort is challenged where our selves and our projects are safely held.
What can you expect?

Comprehensive line edits of representative passages and/or poems that best illustrate my thoughts about tone, clarity, voice, pacing, and/or direction accompanied by detailed, explicated suggestions of changes and additions that might be made
Follow up assessment of reworked material and availability via email for questions and clarifications as your project progresses over the course of a year

wim (no pronouns) is the Founding Editor of kith books, a trans, queer, and Crip forward press that has produced 70+ books (and counting!) since its inception in 2022. wim has worked with dozens of authors through the press and its two associated lit mags—Corporeal & en*gendered—to help shape their poems, flash, essays, cnf, novellas, and novels into work that delights them and makes them proud. wim’s patience and sure, but gentle, handling are perfect for anyone new or nervous to the process of editing, writers who are ready to push past their comfort, and those whose writing cuts close to bone.
Testimonials
“wim brings such a fresh perspective to my writing and gets me to think about my stories in a way I never would’ve considered, consistently elevating my work. If wim is editing your stuff, it’s sure to shine.”
— Alice Scott, author of The Practical Man’s Guide to Cheating Death
and You Are Not Your Bones & Lesser Misfortunes
“wim has the ability to look at a raw, totally unpolished work of emotion that's little more than an unfocused rant, and zero in on its themes and resonant symbolism with a prospector's eye. Without wim's editing process and advice, I'd have four pages of venting and the continued belief I'm solely a fiction writer; instead, the world has
'Simulacring Myself.'"
"wim provides a fresh perspective that makes the editing process constructive for the text and the author. I was intimidated about editing my first novel, so I'm all the more thankful for wim's patient, detailed feedback."
